- One of the Northern Rhone's great growers
- Outstanding vintage
- Superb now, even better with age
For lovers of Northern Rhone syrah the name Alain Graillot needs little introduction and has for some time been the reference point for Crozes-Hermitage. Alain Graillot founded his eponymous domain in 1985, the winemaking today largely conducted by sons Maxime and Antoine. Vinification and elevage is traditional and remained largely unchanged over the years. From a vintage hailed by critic John Livingstone-Learmonth as "one of the top 3 i have ever encountered" this is without doubt one of the finest examples of 'Graillot Crozes' we have tasted. Soaring aromas with a palate saturated in vibrant black and blue fruit wrapped in an extraordinarily silken, fresh package. No hurry for this - this wine has a terrific propensity to keep - but we challenge you to keep your hands off! A great grower offering superb wines at a fair price.
Depth and flesh with terrific freshness just about sums up the Alain Graillot Crozes 2016. This is a Syrah that is full of silky, vibrant fruit, balanced by powdery tannins and good freshness. Of course, it is not as concentrated as the 2015 release, yet it lacks nothing in the intensity and complexity stakes, (ripeness was not an issue in 2016 thanks to a long, late growing season with warm autumn days and cool nights). A great vintage for this wine, which remains one of the genuine bargains of the fine wine world.
