- One of the Northern Rhone's great growers
- 'La Guiraude': Barrel selection made only in excellent vintages
- Reference point for the appellation
For lovers of Northern Rhone syrah the name Alain Graillot needs little introduction and has for some time been the reference point for Crozes-Hermitage. Alain Graillot founded his eponymous domain in 1985, the winemaking today largely conducted by sons Maxime and Antoine. Vinification and elevage is traditional and remained largely unchanged over the years. Although not necessarily a 'better' example of Graillot's standard Crozes-Hermitage, it is a deeper-set wine with more volume of flavour and firmer structure. The warm 2015 vintage has exaggerated the extraordinary liqueur-like fruit flavours and ripe tannin, a feature of Graillot's syrahs. Hold this a while or drink now with protein-rich fare!
La Guiraude is simply a barrel selection of Graillot's Crozes Hermitage. The 2015 Crozes Hermitage la Guiraude is darker and meatier than the regular cuvée, offering notes of black cherries, soy sauce and roasted meat. It's full-bodied and dense, packed with flavor and richness, and long and velvety on the finish.
