- Cyprien Arlaud - emerging star of Burgundy
By Burgundian standards, Domaine Arlaut is a releative newcomer, founded just after the end of World War Two by Ardeche local Joseph Arlaud. The Domaine has expanded significantly since then and the wines are now made by Josephs grandson Cyprien. Since Cypriens father Hervé took over the winemaking in 1982, there has been a continual progression towards refineing the wines, so much so that they are now considered some of the most pure and succelent expressions of their respective terroirs. 'Aux Reas' is a superbly located lieu-dit (named vineyard) located to the south of the Vosne township and is adjacent to the premier cru 'Clos de Reas' and a stones throw from one of the villages greatest vineyards Aux Malconsorts. Not the weight or extreme power of Arlaud's premier or grand crus, but doesn't want for flavour. Classic Vosne village
Reduction blocks an evaluation of the nose. There is good flesh to the supple and very round middle weight flavors that possess reasonably good balance and excellent length but not nearly the same size, weight and volume of the other grands crus in the range. Bigger of course does not mean better, especially in Burgundy, but this is a bit of an enigma as it seems unduly compact today.
