- Considered the highest quality expression of the apellation
- Incredibly rare wines
- Has shaped the landscape of Pouilly Fume
Didier Dagueneau used to be known as the "Wild Man of Saint-Andelain", in part because of his wild and hirsute appearance, but also because of what were considered to be his crazy ideas. As we all know, the proof lies in the pudding - so today, many of his peers in the appellation (and in Sancerre) have adopted his methods. He has revolutionised viticulture and wine making in the region. Silex, from soils riddled with flint and shard, along with stablemate 'Pur Sang', are not only some of the worlds greatest expressions of Sauvignon but of white wine - period.
One producer, Didier Dagueneau, is clearly this appellation's finest. His wines have purity, richness, depth, complexity, concentration, and significant aging potential. Is it any wonder that he is one of the rare vignerons of the appellation to have moderate yields and to eschew machine harvesters.
