- "What mighty things are to come from Dave Fletcher” – Wine Front
- Australian winemaker – Icon region
- Superb wine to cellar
Sometimes it takes an outsider to truly appreciate the gifts and potential of a region. Dave Fletcher, a native of Australia, rooted himself in the region firstly at Ceretto, where he is the winemaker. A few years ago Fletcher started making wines under his own label at a tiny cellar that was once a train station in the flats of Barbaresco, below Marchesi di Grèsy. The first wines are certainly impressive. In a very short time, by Italian standards, Fletcher has managed to forge some strong relationships that give him access to top-tier fruit. More importantly, Fletcher clearly understands the potential of Piedmont, something not all of the locals do, and he has the ambition, commitment and sheer drive to go after his dreams. That's pretty impressive stuff in our book.
"The highlight in this range, the 2015 Barbaresco Recta Pete is a gorgeous, polished wine that very much reflects the personality of Roncaglie, where all of the fruit was sourced in this vintage. Ample, generous and inviting, the 2015 is a first rate wine all the way. Bright red-toned fruit, floral overtones and silky tannins are some of the signatures in a radiant, yet classically mid-weight Barbaresco that captures all the best the vintage has to offer. What a gorgeous wine it is!”
